Top Cities for Couples

Since the rent is so high in most cities across the country and men and women are waiting longer to get married, it’s no wonder more couples are living together.

According to the Census, there were an estimated 6,017,462 unmarried house partners in America during 2006.

Best Homes for Unmarried Couples

Forbes recently surveyed cities across the U.S. to determine which places are the best and worst for couples who are living together, but not married.

Dallas is reportedly at the top of this list for being the best city for couples.

Four other cities in Texas, Houston, Austin and San Antonio also ranked in the top 10.

Cities such as Cleveland, Providence, R.I. , and Miami reportedly ranked at the bottom of the list with low marriage rates, poor housing and high income disparity.

Stephanie Coontz, a professor at the Evergreen State College says that in order for an unmarried couple to live together and stay together, “they really need to be conscious of what cohabitation means and be on the same page, either it’s a precursor to marriage, an alternative to hooking up or an alternative to marriage.”

Divorce Rates in Different Cities

Just as some cities are better for making a home with your partner; other cities prove to be detrimental to a relationship.

Among the cities with the highest divorce rates are Indianapolis and Jacksonville, FL.
New York City reportedly ranked has having the fewest divorces in the country.
