Divorce and The Church

A new study conducted by George Barna disproves the notion that the divorce rate for Christians is the same as it is for non-Christians.

Study Conducted

In the study, which was conducted in March, Barna compared the divorce rates of 5,017 adults according to their:

  • Age
  • Race
  • Religious status
  • Political viewpoint

Findings From the Study

Barna found through the study that for Americans, marriage is the norm and 4 in 5 adults have been married at least once in their lives.

Among those who have been married were a larger number of born-again Christians, 84 percent.

The study also found that one-third of those who got married went through at least one divorce already.

Evangelicals and Catholics reportedly had divorce rates that were lower than the national average, 27 percent and 18 percent.

In conclusion, Barna found that the divorce rate is the same for Christians as it is for non-Christians in the U.S.
