Divorce Rings Gain Popularity

Those going through a divorce are now taking their wedding bands, which once symbolized eternal love and commitment and turning them into rings of hope.

Companies throughout the U.S. are producing and selling rings that are catered towards those who have gone through a divorce.

When the Honeymoon Comes to an End

According to recent reports, an estimated 50 percent of marriages in America eventually come to an end.

“We do not have a ritual to signify divorce,” explains Jim May, director of the Family Wellness Center. “The church has a ritual for everything from birth to death, but the church does not have a ritual that recognizes the pain and suffering that comes with that.”

Transition Ring

Laurie Lunsford, who started a website for what she calls “transition rings” created her first ring for herself.

“I didn’t think about it, but one night I was in a lot of pain over my own divorce…and I started designing the rings and took it to a jeweler, and he started to flesh it out for me,” says Lunsford.

Each of the rings that Lunsford creates and remodels symbolizes something different and is reportedly particular to each person and situation.

“They are symbols of hope for life’s transitions,” says Lunsford.
