Madonna, Guy Ritchie Divorce Finalized

The pop star Madonna and her husband Guy Ritchie, a movie director, have ended their eight-year marriage. On Nov. 21, their divorce settlement will be heard in London, in the High Court's Family Division. Their case — Ciccone M.L. vs. Ritchie G.S. — is in the "quickie" divorce procedure group, and it is not necessary for the couple to appear in court.

Their Three Children

Three children are also involved:

  • Madonna's 12-year-old daughter Lourdes (with Carlos Leon)
  • Their biological son Rocco, 8
  • Their adopted son David, 3

Although the complete details of child custody and living arrangements have not been revealed, apparently Lourdes will be living with Madonna in the U.S., and Rocco and David will split their time between their parents' homes in Britain and the U.S.

No Split of Madonna's Huge Fortune

Madonna, 50, reportedly has a personal fortune worth about $450 million. Ritchie, 40, is worth perhaps one-tenth of that sum. He did not seek any of his wife's fortune, although he was entitled by British law to gain up to 50 percent of the wealth earned by the couple during the marriage.

Settlement Ends the Global Attention

The two were married in December 2000 at Skibo Castle in Scotland. Their settlement ends intense, weeks-long worldwide speculation about their marriage and divorce, handled by two high-profile British attorneys, Fiona Shackleton and Lady Helen Ward. A friend of Ritchie's noted that Guy "didn't want the whole thing dragging on in the public gaze for months and months and, in any case, his priority was the children’s future."
