Governor Taft of Ohio is anticipated to sign a bill that was passed in January by Ohio state legislature and is intended to target uninvolved parents by charging interest on child support payments.
The bill, designed to punish parents with accrued interests for unpaid support, also contains legislation to expedite the process of paternity testing for children. The child support bill would permit unmarried mothers to omit the lengthy process of dealing with child enforcement agencies and go directly to a juvenile court to acquire an order for genetic testing.
While supposed fathers and children will also be allowed to seek paternity testing, the measure was initially designed to aid mothers in the sometimes-difficult process of collecting child support.
