At a recent national conference for the National Organization for Women (NOW), members talked about the supposed “crisis for women and their children in the family law courts” that has been ongoing.
According to representatives from NOW, in many divorce cases, fathers are aggressively litigating against mothers.
Reports claim spouses are using family court to stalk, harass, and impoverish their former partners in what can be extremely “ugly” divorce battles.
Lesbian Custody Cases Problematic
Although there are several lesbian custody disputes that have been publicized, many say the similarities to heterosexual cases are striking.
As with many mothers going through a divorce, lesbians and heterosexuals alike, attempt to drive their partner out of their children’s lives.
Tactics Used in Divorce
Many women reportedly employ the same tactics when faced with a crisis like divorce no matter what their sexuality may be.
Among the tactics more commonly used are:
• Denying visitation
• Making false abuse claims
• Moving the children to another town or city
• Attempting to ruin the children’s bond with the other partner
